Have you ever seen a more in love bride and groom?! Us either! Nicole looked absolutely stunning in her Maggie Sottero gown, while her groom sported a timeless look in a black tuxedo with bow tie. And that’s just for starters. Their day was all about incorporating a rustic vibe, while still remaining timeless, and they totally nailed it. The couple wed outside under a beautiful arbor decorated in lush florals and partied the night away in The Coach House; a refurbished 200-year-old barn they decorated to the nines. From the bride…The most special moment was my first look with Mike. I had a great morning with all of my bridesmaids, mom, and sister getting ready, but I was trying to remain calm and take in every moment of the day as I knew it would fly by. For some reason I felt a bit uneasy, I think I was overwhelmed by the magnitude of the day after the year plus of planning and all that goes along with hosting a wedding. When I did my first look with Mike any anxiety or worries I had disappeared and I felt pure joy to finally be sharing this day with him. His smile in that moment is something I will never forget.
The inspiration behind our wedding design was rustic chic, which our venue did a great job of emulating. We knew we did not want a cookie cutter, typical catering hall feel to our wedding, we wanted to incorporate a rustic vibe while remaining classy and elegant. Our colors were mostly blush and off white with accents of burgundy and greens to tie in the fall feeling of an October wedding, without doing the traditional fall color scheme of oranges, yellows, and reds. We chose to do a non-denominational ceremony although we are both Roman Catholic, we felt it was truer to our relationship and personalities to make the ceremony customized. We also preferred to have our ceremony take place at the venue.
Our flowers were blush pink and off white with burgundy accents and greenery throughout. My bouquet matched my bridesmaids for the most part, on a larger scale. We wanted our ceremony arch to feel whimsical, so flowers were a big part of that décor. We repurposed those flowers during the reception in front of our sweet heart table. There were a few things that did not go completely as planned with our flowers, but overall I think we accomplished the rustic and romantic feel we were aiming for as well as honoring the fall season.
Our venue was very beautiful on its own, therefore we did not want to do too much additional decorating that would create a chaotic atmosphere or clash. The main ballroom was a historic landmark and the original wood ceilings tied perfectly into our rustic theme. In the cocktail hour room, I framed some of my favorite love quotes to help with the romantic feel of the day. I was very specific about our flowers and having two different centerpieces to create some depth to the room. Some of our décor including the hashtag social media sign was DIY (by my talented sister and Maid of Honor) and our custom napkins I designed on Esty. For the rest of the décor I enlisted the help of Lace and Belle’s Meghan Shaughnessy (who designed our Save the Dates and Invitations) including our signature cocktail sign, escort cards, table numbers, and donation sign. The lanterns that lined the ceremony aisle were also my own, as well as the candles on the tables, which helped with the romantic feel we were going for.
I went a little overboard on wedding dress shopping initially and after a while began to feel discouraged, like maybe the dress I was looking for did not exist. I went to Kleinfeld’s for a second visit with my mom and sister where we re-visited our expert stylist, Shay Yarbough. He brought out a dress that at first glance I did not like on the hanger, but I thought it could not hurt to try. Of course, this was the dress! It was so amazing to have already had one appointment with Shay, so the second visit we were comfortable with each other and had a really special moment with Shay, my mom, and my sister that I will never forget. The day I got my dress was definitely one of the best days of the entire wedding planning process. For the groom, we wanted him to look classy, chic, and refined so we went with a classic black tuxedo and vest with a bow tie. I believe for men and especially the groom, you can’t go wrong with the traditional tux look, it stands the test of time.
