Spoiler alert! Kayleigh and Lucas hosted an incredible Cape May wedding with the help of Shore Thing Event Services, and we must say, it’s as charming as it gets. From the romantic florals to a quintessential seaside locale with vintage details and a nod to travel, you’re guaranteed to oooh and ahhh over each and every image captured by Krissy Breece Photography. Plus, the couple has the sweetest story, too! You can read more about this adorable duo’s wedding day at The Southern Mansion by picking up the latest Spring/Summer 2018 edition in Contemporary Weddings Magazine!
The story…Kayleigh and Lucas met in San Francisco during their first semester of college in 2009. And for Lucas, he knew Kayleigh was “the one” after they left for winter break that same year. Their relationship flourished, and with seven years of loving one another, Kayleigh was hopeful Lucas would propose. But after many vacations and special dinners, for which she would frantically paint her nails thinking this might be her moment, she decided that it would happen organically. It was while Kayleigh and Lucas were on vacation in Cape May, New Jersey, with her family that the two enjoyed several romantic walks along the shoreline, candlelit dinners, among much more, but it was the last day of the trip that made this vacation one to remember. “It was rainy, so we raided the fridge and decided to stay in to watch Netflix. We live for quiet days at the beach house where it’s just us and the sound of raindrops on the copper roof,” Kayleigh shared. Kayleigh, who was on the floor playing with their dog Radar, was about to get up to make a sandwich when Lucas wrapped his arms around her, held her tight and pulled out a black box to reveal a radiant cut engagement ring, softly asking her to marry him. “It was a very sweet, simple, and perfect moment.”
What was the design inspiration for your wedding?
Our colors were black cherry, dusty rose, and gold for our vintage travel-theme wedding. I wanted colors that would complement the venue and the season. The Southern Mansion is already such a perfect backdrop, I didn’t want my colors to clash. I found design inspiration from thrift stores to cocktails. I absolutely fell in love with the idea of having pre-ceremony drinks and my dad went everywhere looking for the perfect vintage vanity that would host our specialty sangria from the Willow Creek Winery (Lucas’s favorite!)
Why did you choose The Southern Mansion to host your ceremony and reception?
Since I was a little girl, I ALWAYS knew I was getting married in Cape May, NJ! After we looked at five different venues and nothing felt right, I was beginning to lose hope. My mom suggested The Southern Mansion and we went on the mansion tour. I didn’t want to meet with a planner or anything because it wasn’t even on my radar. After about 20 minutes into the tour, I fell in love with the facility and the people who worked there. We snuck away from the tour group to the staircase, walked down the stairs and my mom got goosebumps and we both started to cry…I found the one!
Describe your wedding floral design. Did you incorporate any sentimental embellishments in your bouquet?
My bouquet was made of romantic roses, hydrangea and magnolia leaves. I also included my grandmother’s broach that my grandfather gave her, which served as my something blue.
Did you include anything new or untraditional during your wedding?
Both of our grandmothers are 89 years old and they were our flower girls, or as I like to call them, “Flower Grams!” They are best friends now!
Do you have any advice for couples who are wedding planning?
Enjoy the planning process and don’t let the little things get to you. No one will care if you have 30 matching brass candle sticks, believe me! Do your research on a wedding planner and do not be afraid to pay for a great one!
